Description
Groundbreaking Nutube technology as the heart of the volca nubass
The Nutube is equipped with two independent triodes. One of these is used in the oscillator to create either a sawtooth wave or a square wave. The second triode is used in the drive circuit of the sub-oscillator, which provides additional pressure and warmth an octave lower. Both the oscillator and the sub-oscillator use a circuit design that produces the basic harmonic character that only a real vacuum tube can deliver.
Transistor ladder low-pass filter for a distinctive sound
The low-pass filter defines the sound of this bass machine. A transistor ladder design is used here, which can also be found in classic, analog bass synthesizers. This filter impresses with its unique dynamics, as it influences the sound more than just making it sound light or dark. Its wide range of tonal options make it ideal for use in a wide variety of dance music genres. In this way, for example, the characteristic modulations that are typical for acid house can be created, or - with increased resonance - sounds with a particularly sharp sound character that are particularly suitable for techno.
A 16-step sequencer for automating various parameters
The volca nubass is equipped with a 16-step sequencer that offers a multitude of functions. In connection with a drum computer, rhythm tracks and musical loops can be created very easily. As in the rest of the volca series, the 16 buttons can be used to program the step sequencer or as a keyboard for real-time recording. The chain function makes it possible to play several sequencer patterns one after the other, whereby up to 16 different sequences can be linked together. The motion sequence function allows you to record controller movements in order to change the sound over time. This function can e.g. B. can be used to create loops or for dynamic and original live performances. Up to 16 sequencer patterns with respective motion sequences can be stored in the internal memory.
Three functions that make the volca nubass groove
The sequencer of the volca nubass provides three functions that enable the typical accent and slide techniques that are typical of the characteristic acid bass. These transpose, accent and slide functions are accessible and adjustable via the step sequencer. The Transpose function plays a note an octave or two higher. So it brings movement to the bass line, but stays within the set scale. The accent function emphasizes a note and thus creates a higher dynamic, which creates a more expressive rhythm. And the slide function creates a smooth transition between two notes, which would be hard to imagine an acid sound without. Use these functions to give your sequences their own groove and the volca nubass will instantly make your performances and compositions appear more alive. All of these three functions can also be programmed with random parameters. In addition to generating unpredictable patterns, various settings can also be randomly controlled in order to bring even more variation into the patterns and thus to achieve completely unexpected and surprising results.
Connections for synchronization with KORG Grooveboxes and other devices
Since the device offers sync inputs and outputs for easy connection with KORG Grooveboxes, it can also be connected to other volca devices, all synthesizers from the “logue” series or equipment such as an electribe2 or an SQ-1 to create the individual Synchronize sequencers in a simple way. There is also a standard MIDI IN connection with which the volca nubass can also be used as a sound module for your DAW.
The Volca Nubass is the first analog synthesizer whose oscillator is equipped with a Nutube, the latest generation of vacuum tubes. The combination of vacuum tube and analog sound generation stands for a particularly warm, fat sound that is rich in overtones. The well-known ladder filter based on transistor supplies the sound of a classic bass machine, paired with overdrive and a huge sounding distortion.
A next-generation acid bass machine combines classic sound with the benefits of modern synthesizer design. - The Volca Nubass!
