RME Micstasy

At the AES in Paris, RME presents the brand new MICstasy, a high-end preamplifier and A/D converter for analog signals, microphone, line and instrument. The RME MICstasy is the professional tool for mobile use, in the studio and during installations, right through to uncompromising live recordings - this even makes surround recordings child's play. The extensive equipment enables extremely flexible use. The amplified signal can be output via the analog outputs, thereby saving an expensive splitter. All important functions can be remotely controlled via MIDI and MIDI via MADI. This means that the MICstasy can be placed very close to the microphone and the optimal sound quality is maintained. There are even more possibilities when expanding with the retrofittable MADI option. The MADI signal can then be looped through from one MICstasy to the next (up to 8). The individual audio signals are integrated into the MADI data stream and can then be transported via a single line. Such a connection is also possible between MICstasy and ADI-8 QS. The AutoSet function Normally, preamps do not have protection against overloading of the A/D converters. And if so, then only via a “normal” limiter. However, this degrades the technical data of the signal to such an extent that use in the MICstasy is not acceptable. RME solved the problem of overload safety in a completely different way: In the "AutoSet" mode, the analog channels are monitored for overload and reduced if necessary. This is made possible by digital control of the input levels. In practice, a run is made with the loudest levels and the MICstasy adjusts the gain optimally - done! Live recordings become easier, safer and much more relaxed. The MICstasy from RME is expected to be available in stores from August 2006 at a price of around CHF 5000.
