The d:facto series ensures a true studio sound on the live stage and in the broadcast studio. These microphones are available in an extremely linear version and in a version with presence boost. The modularity of the d:facto series allows the capsule and adapter to be exchanged, making it the most flexible vocal microphone on the market.

The d:facto was specially designed for vocals on stage. It features a supercardioid capsule that reproduces every nuance of the human voice transparently, unaltered and in a gripping way. Two versions are available. The d:facto Linear Vocal Microphone (4018VL) is extremely linear. The d:facto Vocal Microphone (4018V) is linear, but with a presence boost. The 4018V is often chosen because it cuts through in the recording studio, where the content is normally transmitted to built-in TV speakers with limited audio quality.

Apart from linearity/boost, these microphones are identical. Both versions offer an isolation-optimized supercardioid polar pattern. This polar pattern offers the best of both worlds - cardioid and supercardioid. These microphones are equipped with a three-stage pop protection grille for loud vocals and offer the lowest handling noise in their class. They also offer excellent sound reproduction with all the detail, balanced linear phase and frequency response that users have always trusted from DPA microphones.
Optimized for live performance

d:facto vocal microphones are the ultimate onstage microphones - from performances in a cozy club to the largest concert hall.

Just like the traditional supercardioid microphones, the d:facto series impresses with high lateral and rear sound suppression with at least 9 dB attenuation in the lateral direction. However, it is not bound to the less desirable aspects of the supercardioid, such as the difficult to control and non-linear return lobe, which can cause feedback from stage monitors if there is a sudden high frequency peak to the rear of the microphone.

The d:facto series has a wider pick-up angle at the front of the microphone than most supercardioids. The pick-up angle is identical to a first-order cardioid in the outermost range of ±60 degrees, producing the same sound field as a cardioid - but with extremely high and even attenuation on the side and rear.
Linear or presence boost?

When choosing a d:facto vocal microphone, choose the microphone that best suits your needs. The extremely linear version of the d:facto vocal microphone has been specially developed for sound engineers who prefer to give the final sound their own unique expression. A version with a pre-programmed presence boost provides a 3 dB soft boost at 12 kHz.
Both versions of the d:facto capture electrifying performances and reproduce a singer's voice in a transparent, pristine and captivating way. A supercardioid microphone is similar to a cardioid microphone - it is more sensitive to the front sound and less sensitive to the rear sound. Super-cardioid microphones have a narrower pickup pattern, making them more focused than cardioid microphones. The sound off-axis is usually more or less colored and muffled - and due to the narrow focus angle, the range of muffled sound is significantly larger. However, the unique DPA capsule technology bypasses the coloration of the sound coming from the sides or back of the microphone and only reduces the sensitivity at these angles, resulting in optimal sound stages. The amount of attenuation depends on the exact specifications of the microphone.

Due to their nature, supercardioid microphones are often used on live stages, both at concerts and speeches, to capture the focused sound of an instrument or voice. The high gain helps to reduce the influence of other sounds on a full stage. With supercardioid microphones, the proximity effect must be taken into account, which increases the low frequencies the closer the microphone is to the sound source. In addition, supercardioid microphones are much more sensitive to wind, popping and handling noises than omnidirectional microphones, and you should beware of this.
Wired or wireless? - The choice is yours

And if you prefer wireless, simply switch to a wireless adapter at a quarter of the cost of a new microphone.
