Tested the FlyRig 5 first through a Fender Pro Reverb, (40 watts). Sounds great! Blonde side very Fender-ish. Plexi and Cali both good. Through a tube electric guitar amp the Plexi/Cali can stand alone. When using the DI out to a LD Maui 28 linear array the Plexi/Cali didn’t stand alone so well… more for adding more dirt to the Blonde channel. Sounds very good through the Maui 28, my own disco! The big surprise was when I put the FlyRig5 in front of my little Laney Cub 8. The Cub 8 is a 5 watt, single 6V6, class A amp w/ a tiny 8” speaker, (they’re no longer being made by Laney). It sounded spectacular, very 3D.
And Loud! Like a 25 watt amp. That’s what I’ll be traveling with in the foreseeable future. I had a FlyRig, the first or second type issued and was disappointed. The FlyRig 5 was a big good surprise. The reverb is good, 2 settings: Big room, and little room. Big room good for clean, Little room for dirt. The delay section is good with ‘Drift’ which sounds to me like the modulation on a DMM. Now, I can take the FR 5, the Laney Cub 8, a mini wah pedal, and leave my pedalboard at home.
I got a Falken battery power supply to run it with, it lasts for 12 hours of playing.
